TCU head coach Gary Patterson announced after practice on Monday that junior Tye Gunn will start at quarterback in the season opener against Northwestern on Thursday. Gunn had competed with senior signal-caller Brandon Hassell for the starting job during the preseason. Gunn owns an 8-0 record as a starter, while Hassell is 7-2. "Tye is the starter," Patterson said. "He is the starter because we can't play 12 guys. We had to make a decision, and we felt like Tye was the guy right now." Patterson also indicated that both quarterbacks will see action in the first half. The Frogs and Northwestern will hook up in an 8:30 p.m. clash on Thursday at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth. Plenty of good tickets remain for the contest.
