Anderson Completes Coaching Staff

Former Sam Houston State assistant coach James Thomas has been hired as an assistant track & field coach at TCU, completing Darryl Anderson's first coaching staff. Thomas will work with the TCU long and triple jumpers and will coordinate the Frogs' recruiting efforts, according to Anderson.
"James bring a lot of energy to the staff," said Anderson. "He is a young coach who really caught my eye as someone with a bright future in the coaching profession. We're excited to have him on board."
Thomas spent one year as an assistant coach at Sam Houston State University where he oversaw the javelin throw and the jumps. While at Sam Houston he tutored NCAA regional qualifiers in both the high jump and javelin. Under his guidance, Signe Bech was an NCAA national qualifier in the javelin with a school record mark of 160 feet, 9 inches.
Thomas, a native of Houston, lettered in both basketball and track & field at Northwest Nazarene University in Idaho where he was an all-American in the javelin and triple jump. He transferred to Sam Houston for his senior year and earned all-Southland Conference honors in his final campaign. He earned NCAA all-region honors and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor National Championships. Thomas set the school records in the javelin (227-7) and in the indoor pentathlon (3515). In addition, he earned academic all-Southland Conference honors.
Thomas is a USATF Level II certified coach and worked as a graduate assistant instructor in the Sam Houston State Health and Kinesiology department.
Earlier this month, Anderson announced the hirings of John Kenneson and D'Andre Hill as assistant coaches. In addition, Patrick Cunniff remains on the TCU coaching staff.
