FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU Head Volleyball Coach Prentice Lewis announced the signing of four high school players who will join the team in the fall of 2005-06. Devon Kirk, Samantha Pittman, and Kourtney Edwards hail from Texas while Gabi McHugh comes from Coach Lewis' home state of California.
Edwards, a local Metroplex product from Haltom City, Texas (Haltom High School), earned first team all-district this season. The six-foot, right-handed middle blocker has a 10-3 vertical and chose TCU over LSU, Mississippi State, and Alabama.
Kirk comes in from Katy, Texas (Second Baptist High School). At 6-0, she is set to play outside hitter for the Frogs. She plays for the Texas Tornadoes club team and is the daughter of Barbara Kirk and Gregory Roden.
McHugh, an Oceanside, Calif. (Vista High School), and 2003 third team all-league, currently is helping her team battle it out in the San Diego section semi-finals. The 6-2, right-handed middle blocker also considered Clemson and Cal-State Northridge.
Pittman, a 6-2 right-handed outside hitter hails from Schertz, Texas (Samuel Clemens), and earned 2003 second team all-district in addition to several all-tournament team honors. She currently plays for the Texas Juniors 181 club team. Pittman chose TCU over Texas State.
"I am very pleased with our recruiting class," Head Coach Prentice Lewis said. "This is a combination of solid volleyball skills and raw athletic ability. It's going to be a great mixture with our athletes now and I can't wait to get them in the gym." www.gofrogs.com
