Prairie View, Texas - Once again, the TCU volleyball squad gave a complete team effort to overcome the Prairie View A&M Panthers in three games. Together, they shattered school records and won in three games, building the winning streak to six, a program first. Their record stands at 6-1. The first game looked evenly matched until freshman Emily Allen took the ball into her capable hands, powering the Frogs into an assured win with 11 straight points.
Dominika Szabo turned on offensively in the second half with only one attack error and six kills. Tori Barlow shamelessly racked up kills by dumping the ball onto the Panthers' side of the court. The score proved the Frogs one up, 30-21.
The second game, Barlow began the trend that created the new match record for aces on her first serve of the game. Ellen Rehme earned three aces in a row halfway through. All in all, the team collected 17 aces by the end of the match. They won the second game 30-22.
In the third and final game, once again, everyone helped out for the win, with each player in a Frog uniform performing and earning points for the cause. Skye Tacker, sophomore setter, finished the Panthers off with a swinging kill.
"This was a great match for us to improve our offense and get everyone involved. Each of the players got to play through ups and down and receive experience through offensive runs by Prairie View," commented Coach Prentice Lewis.
For TCU, Szabo knocked out 14 kills, and five errors in 25 attempts, giving her a .360 attack average. Rehme tallied nine kills, one error, and 13 total attack, giving her a .615 percentage. Barlow dished out 29 assists, bringing her career total to 2,110, only 129 behind second-place in school history.
For the Panthers, Jonette Ozen earned nine kills in 16 attempts with only one error, giving herself a .500 attack average. Mary Reese had seven kills and Jamie Young was also a bright spot with eight kills.
Next up, TCU makes themselves at home in Fort Worth for the first time this year. They host Texas Pan-American, Arkansas State, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff for the first of two Horned Frog tournaments in the TCU Adidas Invitational. Friday, they take on Texas-Pan Am at 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, they play Pine Bluff at 1:00 p.m., before battling Arkansas State in the nightcap at 7:30 p.m.
