TCU Opens Outdoor Track Season Saturday

March 19, 2003
The TCU Flyin' Frogs will open their 2003 outdoor track & field schedule on Saturday, March 22, when they travel to Waco, Texas for the Dr Pepper Invitational. The competition will be held at the Hart/Patterson Track & Field Complex on the Baylor University campus with the running events slated to begin at 12:30 p.m.
The TCU men are the defending Conference USA outdoor champions, while the TCU women placed fourth at last season's C-USA outdoor championships.
The NCAA has created a new format to reach the national meet during the outdoor season with the implementation of regional qualifying. The regional qualifying requires that student-athletes advance to the championship meet based primarily upon their performance at one of four regional meets. During the regular season, student-athletes will have to meet qualifying times and distances equal to the 100th best effort from the previous season to gain entrance to the regional meet. Conference champions in each event will automatically qualify for the regional meet. Student-athletes, including conference champions, must compete in the regional meets in order to advance to the championship finals. The top five finishers in each event at each regional will advance to the championship finals. In addition, the championships participation cap would be reached by inviting at-large athletes based upon a season-long performance list. It is anticipated that six to eight at-large athletes will be selected in each individual event.
TCU will compete in the Midwest Regional in Lincoln, Nebraska, May 30-31. Here are the TCU entries for Saturday's Dr Pepper Invitational:
