Frogs Set For NCAA Indoor Championships

The TCU Flyin' Frogs will be represented in eight events, six on the men's side and two on the women's ledger, at the 2003 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. The meet will be held this weekend at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville, Ark.
"If the guys all do what they're capable of doing, we have a chance to finish in the top 10," said TCU head coach Monte Stratton. "When you're in the sprint events like we are, you go into the meet with cautious optimism. Anything can happen. We're ready to roll," he added. "On the women's side, I think both of our sprinters (Monica Twum in the 60 and Donita Harmon in the 200) have a chance to make the finals."
On the men's side, junior long jumper Aundre Edwards is the Frogs' best bet to medal, as he is tied for the third best long jump in the nation this spring. He finished fifth at the NCAA outdoor meet a year ago. The Frogs have had three individual indoor champions in their history: Raymond Stewart in the 55 in 1989 and Kim Collins in the 60 and 200 meters in 2001.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Brandon Simpson, Jackson Langat, Jabari Fields and Jerry Harris holds the nation's fourth fastest time this season at 3:06.23. The Frogs captured the gold medal in the indoor 4x4 relay in 2000 when Roy Williams, Anthony Amantine, Kendrick Campbell and Johnny L. Collins II edged Oklahoma by three-tenths of a second with a winning time of 3:06.69.
Other TCU qualifiers include Michael Frater in the 60, Jerry Harris in the 400, Jackson Langat in the 800 and Brandal Lawrence in the triple jump.
The Frogs will leave for Fayetteville on Wednesday with the meet getting underway on Friday afternoon.
