Fort Worth, Texas - TCU fought for four games, but could not overcome the visiting Cougars tonight at the University Rec Center. Houston grabbed three games from the Frogs, winning 30-25, 24-30, 30-27, 30-28.
The night started off well for the Horned Frogs, with junior Dominika Szabo hitting 14 for 21 in the first two games. Although Houston took the first game, TCU still had a lot of fight in them, scrapping it out to a second game win. Reserves from the bench such as sophomores Hayley Harmon and Erin Estep and freshman Cally Corley kept the Frogs alive into the third and fourth games with solid defense, but it was not to be, as TCU fell to Houston's stubborn net and floor defense and insistent attacks. Freshman Kelly McAnelly led the Cougars with 24 kills in 54 tries, while Cinthia Piva contributed 14 kills and Loure Dews threw in 15 in addition to her six blocks. Szabo collected 27 kills on the night with freshman Emily Allen dishing out 14 of her own in 25 attempts for a .520 average, her best offensive outing yet. Junior Ellen Rehme added another double-double to her list with 11 kills and 18 digs. Senior Tori Barlow also tallied a double-double with 52 assists and 10 digs, while freshman Anna Vaughn contributed 10 kills.
With the loss, TCU falls to 16-7, with a 2-3 Conference USA mark. Houston is now 6-13, 2-3 in C-USA. TCU entertains its graduates this weekend in a Purple and White alumni match, beginning at two p.m. in the University Rec Center.
