COACHING STAFF
First year TCU Head Coach PRENTICE LEWIS comes to TCU from the 7th ranked Florida Gators, after assisting them to a 28-2 season. At Florida she served as the offensive coordinator, producing 5 ALL-SEC performers and 2 ALL-AMERICANS.
Before coaching at Florida, Coach Lewis was an assistant in the Big-West at UC-Irvine and in the Pac-10 at Oregon. During her collegiate career at Long Beach State University, Coach Lewis was one of the premier defensive specialists in the nation, helping her team to four straight Big West titles, three Final Fours, and the 1993 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. Coach Lewis has played and coached at the highest level of Division I volleyball and she brings that knowledge, energy and excitement to her camp.
Assistant Coach JASON TANAKA brings a very strong technical training background to the TCU program and is an expert in breaking down the fundamentals of volleyball. He joined Lewis' staff from the University of Pittsburgh, where he guided the Panthers to a 22-11 record. Coach Tanaka has local ties, leading Baylor University to its first ever NCAA appearance as an assistant in 1999.
Assistant coach BARBARA KOVACS brings an international flavor to TCU as a former player on the Hungarian National Team. Kovacs was a three-time all-conference selection and made four NCAA appearances at George Mason University. Coach Kovacs is organizing and directing the Lewis Camps for the summer of 2002.
The camp staff also includes outstanding collegiate players and coaches and local high school coaches.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The one-day clinics are designed to provide position specific training at a collegiate phase. We will teach the technique that our athletes are using on a Division I level. The setter's clinic focuses on hand position, movement to the ball, front row and back row attack, jump setting and attacking the ball.
The defense clinic, encompasses passing, serve receive and ball control that are essential to collegiate volleyball. In the hitter's clinic we will teach arm swing, footwork, blocking, serve receive and transition movement for outside and middle attackers. Participants receive a free T-shirt and lunch. The $70 clinic fee is due with the application.
The overnight camps provide an intense training schedule for the campers. While the main goals of these sessions are to instruct and teach the campers drills and specific skills, there will be lots of competition as well. The All Skills Camp is designed for anyone who wants to improve her basic volleyball skills, of passing, attacking, serving, setting. The staff will teach the fundamentals of the collegiate game.
The Team Camp is for those players who want position specific training, in team oriented drills. We will teach combinations, team defense, offense, and serve receive patterns. We welcome teams! We will keep your team together! The College Preparatory Camp is for anyone who is thinking about playing high school varsity, club or college volleyball. Sessions will be conducted like we run our college practices. Participants will receive a free T-shirt and meals are provided.
AGE LIMIT
Clinics are designed for 6th through 12th grade. Overnight Camps are for 7th through 12th graders.
