FROGS TRAVEL TO HOUSTON, FACE LEAGUE-LEADING RICE
The TCU Horned Frogs (32-25, 21-12) will travel to Houston this weekend to
face the league-leading Rice Owls (40-17, 23-10). The first-place Owls lead
the Frogs by two games in the WAC Standings. Last weekend, while the Frogs
played three non-conference games against UTA, Rice dropped two of three at
Fresno State. Rice needs only one win in the series to clinch their fifth
WAC title, while TCU must sweep Rice to win the league title. The Owls,
ranked 16th nationally by both Baseball America and by Collegiate Baseball,
have already received a bid to the NCAA tournament.
104th SEASON OF TCU BASEBALL
This is the 104th edition of TCU baseball. The Frogs have an all-time mark
of 1534-1332-25 for a winning percentage of .536. In games played at the TCU
Diamond, which opened on March 3, 1962, the Frogs have a record of
851-598-8.
WAC PLAY
The Frogs are in their fifth and final season in the Western Athletic
Conference. TCU has compiled a conference record of 85-66-0 in five WAC
seasons. Last year, TCU ended conference play with a record of 12-18. Always
tough at the TCU Diamond, the Frogs have a record of 50-27 in home (WAC)
conference games. On the road, the Frogs have compiled a record of 35-39 in
WAC games. Next season, TCU will become a member of Conference USA.
GAME COVERAGE
TCU baseball is carried on KTCU 88.7 FM with Chuck LaMendola calling the
action. TCU fans can access the radio broadcast of any TCU game from
anywhere in the world via the internet at www.ktcu.tcu.edu. The TCU pregame
show will begin 15 minutes before the first pitch of every game.
HEAD COACH LANCE BROWN
The 2001 Horned Frogs are under the guidance of head coach Lance Brown (TCU,
1967). Brown, TCU's all-time winningest coach, has a record of 452-427. In
his 15th season at TCU, Brown is assisted by Donnie Watson, Barry Takahashi
and Tom Hardgrove. Brown picked up win #450 in the Sunday, April 29th win
over San Jose State.
TCU-RICE SERIES
When TCU and Rice begin play on Friday, it will be the 227th meeting between
the two teams... the Frogs lead in the overall series, 114-111-1... earlier
in the year, Rice swept TCU in a three-game series played at the TCU
Diamond... last season, the Owls won four of six games... the two teams
split a rain-shortened two-game series at Reckling Park... TCU won the
opener, 3-0, then dropped game two, 12-3... due to the rainout in Houston,
the teams played a four-game series in Fort Worth... since joining the WAC
in 1997, Rice has won 19 of the 26 games between the two teams... the Frogs
are 3-8 in the last 11 games played at Rice... this will be the last time
the two teams will meet as WAC rivals... Lance Brown has a record of 24-38
vs. Rice.
