NEW ORLEANS, La. - The TCU volleyball team (6-18, 2-10 C-USA) lost to theTulane Green Wave (16-10, 7-6 C-USA) in a tough three-game conference match. TCU heads to Southern Miss on Saturday to try to pick up a win against the Golden Eagles.
Game one started well for the Frogs as the won the first point on a kill by junior Jenn Cuca following a long rally by the two squads. However, that was the only lead of the game for the Frogs as Tulane won game one 30-21.
TCU led much of the second game, by as many as seven points midway through (18-11) before the Green Wave came creeping back. The Frogs' blocking was stronger in the second game behind freshman Shannon Brown, sophomore Courtney Beach, junior Stephanie Watson and seniors Marci King, Allison Lynch and Lindsay Hayes. It was not enough, though, as Tulane capitalized on TCU mistakes to win 30-28.
The teams traded points during the early going in game three, with neither able to break out. Behind the serving of Erin Dobyanski, Tulane scored five straight to jump out to a 22-16 lead. The Frogs outscored the Green Wave 11 to five to finish, but couldn't pull out the win as game three went 30-27.
"We played better volleyball at the end of game three when we were down 20-29 and rallied to get it to 27-29," said head coach Sandy Troudt. "Game two we played well, but didn't finish it. Jenn Cuca played well tonight - she hit .407 [14 kills, 3 errors, 27 attacks] and it was good to have Shannon (Brown) playing again."
The Frogs were led by Cuca with 14 kills, King with 29 attacks and nine digs, and Hayes with 27 assists. Brown and Beach each tallied three blocks, while Lynch and Cuca each had a pair of aces.
The Frogs continue their Louisiana-Mississippi trip when they take on Southern Miss on Saturday, November 3. The team's final regular season road-match is a visit to Houston on Tuesday, November 6. TCU finishes its regular-season against Marquette and DePaul on November 9 and 10.
