ARLINGTON, Texas - The TCU volleyball team (6-17, 2-9 C-USA) dropped its final non-conference match Tuesday against Texas-Arlington (16-10). The Frogs have three remaining road matches and two home matches to finish the regular season.
The Frogs jumped out to an early lead in game one until UTA tied the game at 10 all, then took the lead. The Mavericks led by as many as eight points late before TCU rallied to pull within three behind the serving series of senior Marci King that included two aces. After out-hitting the Frogs .300 to .056, UTA took the game 30-24 on two Frog attack errors.
The teams traded points in game two until UTA broke out at the 17 all mark. UTA won the second game 30-23 to take a 2-0 lead into intermission.
After being down 11-3, the Frogs took a timeout then outscored the Mavericks 12 to five to make the game 16-15 in UTA's favor. That was as close as TCU could get to UTA as the Mavericks took the game 30-19.
"We were right there with them during the first two games and let them get away," said head coach Sandy Troudt. "Game three we got into the hole again early. We had some promising play from some of our underclassmen tonight - that's exciting for us."
King led the Frogs with 10 kills, 25 attacks and four aces. Senior Lindsay Hayes had 19 assists, while senior Jennifer Sebastian had seven digs. Senior Allison Lynch had three blocks to lead the squad.
The Frogs continue their road excursions as they head for New Orleans to play Tulane on Friday, November 2 and Hattiesburg, Miss. to play Southern Miss on Saturday, November 3. The road trip concludes with a visit to Houston on Tuesday, November 6. TCU finishes its regular-season against Marquette and DePaul on November 9 and 10.
