
Horned Frog Men's Golfers in Third After Day One

TAMPA, Fla. - The TCU men's golf team is in third place, one shot behind Kentucky and 15 strokes behind tournament leader Florida, following the second round of the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate Invitational at Old Memorial Golf Course in Tampa, Fla. Heading into the tournament, the Frogs remain in the top spot according to the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings system.
The Frogs shot a 296 (+8) through the opening 18 holes, the first time that TCU shot a round over par as a team this season. TCU came back to score a 284 (-4) in the second round to move up from sixth place to third in the team standings.
Individually, Adam Rubinson has continued his hot play and is tied for fourth place after firing a three-under par 141. With scores of 71 and 70, the Fort Worth native now has shot under par in each of the eight rounds he has played this season. Rubinson has placed second and 10th in the first two tournaments of the year.
Andy Doeden is also on the leaderboard after recording a TCU-low round of 67 on the second 18 holes. After opening the tournament with a 73, the senior's five-under round moved him into the top 10. He is in a tie for ninth place with an overall score of 143 and is in position to place among the top 20 for the third time in as many events.
TCU's final player in the top 20 is freshman J.J. Killeen, who is three-over par (147). After registering a career-best placement of 15th at the Red River Classic, he also is poised for another solid individual finish.
Stephen Polanski, playing as a team member instead of an individual participant for the first time this season, has a share of 31st place with a five-over 149, while Steve Shuert is tied for 69th with a 159.
Florida sophomore Camilo Villegas shot a competitive course record 62 to lead defending national champion and 10th-ranked Florida. The field features three of Golfweek's top 10 nationally ranked teams and five of the top 30 (No. 1 TCU, No. 8 Ohio State, No. 10 Florida, No. 17 College of Charleston and No. 30 North Florida. The final round begins Tuesday at 8 a.m.
