TCU baseball swings into action

The TCU Horned Frogs will open the 2001 baseball season Tuesday, January 30, when they host Prairie View A&M. First-pitch for the season-opening doubleheader is set for 12:05 p.m. The Prairie View contests will be the first of five games this week for the Frogs. This weekend, TCU will travel to Houston to face former SWC rivals, Texas Tech, Baylor and Texas in the Astros College Classic.

104th SEASON OF TCU BASEBALL
This is the 104th edition of TCU baseball. The Frogs have an all-time mark
of 1502-1307-25 for a winning percentage of .534. Last year, the Frogs
recorded a 22-34 win-loss mark, including a 12-18 record in conference play.
The Frogs are in their fifth and final season in the WAC. Next season, TCU
will become a member of Conference USA.
HEAD COACH LANCE BROWN
The 2001 Horned Frogs are under the guidance of head coach Lance Brown (TCU,
1967). Brown, TCU's all-time winningest coach, has a record of 420-402. Now
in his school-record setting 15th season at TCU, Brown is assisted by Donnie
Watson, Barry Takahashi and Tom Hardgrove.
TCU IN SEASON OPENERS
In 14 seasons under Brown, the Frogs have a record of 8-6 in season openers,
including a 3-4 record in home season openers. Last season, TCU was
defeated, 7-4, by Dallas Baptist. TCU's last win in a home season opener
was in 1995, when the Frogs defeated Abilene Christian, 10-1.
TCU-PRAIRIE VIEW A&M SERIES
When TCU and Prairie View A&M begin play on Tuesday afternoon, it will be the
sixth and seventh meetings between the two teams...the Frogs lead in the
overall series, 5-0-0... the two teams last met in the 1987 season, when the
Frogs swept a doubleheader, winning 8-4 and 7-5... Lance Brown has a career
record of 2-0 against Prairie View A&M.
ASTROS COLLEGE CLASSIC
Six of the seven members of the final days of the Southwest Conference will
get together this weekend, February 1-4, in the Astros College Classic at
Enron Field in Houston. In the three day classic, the Frogs will face Texas
Tech (Friday, Feb. 2), Baylor (Saturday, Feb. 3) and Texas (Sunday, Feb. 4).
The event will begin on Thursday, Feb. 1, when Baylor faces the Rice Owls.
