LUBBOCK, Texas (Oct. 17) -- Texas Tech defeated TCU, 3-0 (15-6, 15-6, 15-5), in a non-conference volleyball match at Coronado High School Gymnasium in Lubbock, Texas. TCU (6-12), who fell to UTEP in three games the night before, could only manage a .050 attack percentage for the match. No TCU player had more than six kills.
The Red Raiders (13-8) controlled the match from the outset. Texas Tech, coming off a 47-minute, 3-0 win at Oklahoma in which they allowed only nine points to the Sooners, hit .302 and were led by freshman outside hitter Ann Romjue with 10 kills.
In the decisive game, Texas Tech stormed out of the mid-match break to take a 12-0 lead. The scoreless streak for TCU was ended by a block from sophomore middle blocker Allison Lynch (Lincoln, Neb./Malcolm HS) and junior outside hitter Amy Atamanczuk (Fort Worth, Texas/Paschal HS). Behind the Atamanczuk serve later in the game, TCU cut into the Red Raider lead, 14-5, but eventually succumbed the Red Raiders's second match point.
The Red Raiders cruised to a 15-6 victory in game two. For TCU, senior defensive specialist Stacy Olson (Richardson, Texas/J.J. Pearce HS) came into the game to set the final points of the frame, recording three assists.
Game one opened up with the Frogs and Raiders playing to a 3-3 tie early. Texas Tech, behind five kills from Romjue in that first game, rallied to take the next 10 points of the first frame. Two blocks from Lynch with assists from sophomore setter Lindsay Hayes (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements HS) and Atamanczuk drew TCU to 13-5, but the Raiders closed out game one shortly thereafter.
The Horned Frogs return home for their next match on Oct. 22 with a WAC contest against San Jose State, scheduled for 7 p.m.
