Frogs Handle UTEP, 3-1, in WAC Volleyball Match

FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 12) - Behind a 20-kill effort from junior outside hitter Amy Atamanczuk (Fort Worth, Texas/Paschal HS), TCU (9-16, 3-7 WAC) defeated UTEP (5-20, 3-9 WAC), 3-0 (15-2, 12-15, 15-6, 15-12) in a WAC volleyball match before 462 at the Rickel Center.
TCU steamrolled to a win in game one, 15-2. After exchanging the first two points of the game, TCU scored the next 10, seven of which came off a roll of Atamanczuk serves. Leading 11-1, the Frogs were hitting .687 at that point in the match and concluded the first game hitting, .478.
UTEP rebounded to claim a win in game two, but TCU again proved dominant in the third. The Horned Frogs hit 20 kills in the third game and amassed a .289 attack percentage to storm to the game three win.
In the fourth and final game, TCU rallied from being down 10-6 to tie the game at 12 apiece. TCU scored the matches' final three points within two exchanges of sides out to claim the match and end a two-match losing skid.
Atamanczuk led the frogs with the 20 kills and added 11 digs. Sophomore setter Lindsay Hayes (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements HS) had eight kills, 14 digs and 41 assists. Freshman middle blocker Katie Kieffer (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Acad.) added eight blocks to the Horned Frog effort. UTEP outside hitter Stacy Zimmerman had 18 kills in a losing effort.
The Frogs return to action tomorrow night against third-ranked Hawai'i. The match is to be played at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum with first serve scheduled for 7 p.m.
