FORT WORTH, Texas (October 22, 2000) -- The TCU men's soccer team ended its home schedule on Sunday, October 22, with a disappointing 4-0 loss to Missouri Valley Conference foe Vanderbilt. The win dropped the Frog's overall record for the year to 7-8 and 3-5 in the MVC. The Commodores moved to 7-9 on the year and evened their Missouri Valley record at 4-4 with the win.
Vanderbilt scored the game-winning goal with three minutes remaining in the first half when freshman forward Jimmy Stone scored his second goal of the season. Stone received the ball after a long kick from sophomore goalkeeper Brad Winter and proceeded to go one-on-one with TCU sophomore goalie Michael Lahoud and buried the ball in the back of the net.
The Commodore's second goal came nine minutes in to the second half when freshman forward Patrick Sullivan headed the ball in on a corner taken by junior midfielder Eric Kubacki. Vanderbilt's leading scorer, sophomore midfielder Charlie White, added his sixth goal of the year 14 minutes later and sophomore midfielder William Perez scored the game's final goal with six minutes to play.
The Frog's failed to capitalize on two golden scoring opportunities in the second half. Both came late in the game, the first of which occurred when junior forward Aaron Greishaber crossed the ball to fellow teammate Bobby Montes. Montes' shot missed wide right by about one foot. Three minutes later, Montes had another chance to get TCU on the board, but after picking up a loose ball his shot caught the right post of the goal and sailed out of bounds.
Before the game, three TCU seniors, Brad Johnson, Matt Groves, and Michael Martin, were recognized, as it was the final home game of their careers at TCU.
The Frogs travel to Des Moines, Iowa on Friday, October 27, to take on the Drake Bulldogs at 3 p.m. TCU's final two games will come against #10 Creighton and #3 SMU. So far this season, the Horned Frogs are 2-0 against teams ranked in the top 25.
