Men's Soccer Earns First Win

FORT WORTH, TX (Sept. 14) - In its third overtime match of the season, the TCU men's soccer team defeated the University of Texas at Dallas, 2-1, Tuesday. TCU gets the season's first win to up its record to 1-2-1 while UTD falls to 2-2.
Freshman forward Matt Lopez (Arlington, Texas/Martin H.S.) scored the game-winning goal for TCU less than two minutes into the first sudden-death overtime period on the only shot attempted in overtime.
"It's not how we planned to win, but we'll take it," said head coach David Rubinson.
Junior midfielder Matt Groves (Richardson, Texas/L.V. Berkner) scored the game's first goal at 16:50 after a goal had been called back due to an offsides call. Groves' goal was assisted by sophomore Josh Rife (Denton, Texas/Denton H.S.).
TCU outshot UTD in the second period, but UTD found the back of the net on Ngoc Vo's goal at 72:26.
Three of TCU's four matches had ended in overtime.
The Frogs travel to Indianapolis for the Nike-Snicker SoccerFest IV to play Butler Friday, Sept. 17, and defending national champion Indiana Sunday, Sept. 19.
